Although The Sky

By Dorkus64
On the MINDWAVE Kickstarter Demo (2025)

Although the sky might be gray
I found a way
I'm seein' sunbeams all the time now

Although the grass might be wet
Don't give up yet
You'll miss the rainbow if you run now

Soon you'll see it, see it shinin'
Hand in hand, the colors vibrant
Fleeting beauty isn't silent
I know sometimes it really feels that way

And when the stars want to talk
Don't be in shock
The constellations are good hearted

Despite the dark we can rock
Ignore the clock
We'll have a good time never charted

Even during all the bad days
Cloudy skies can't stop the sunrays
This could never be a sad place
If you check it out I know you'll

Soon you'll see it, see it shinin'
Hand in hand, the colors vibrant
Fleeting beauty isn't silent
I know sometimes it really feels that way

Although it may not seem like much
The slightest touch
Could make a difference
At the right time

When it seems that you're done
Know that you've won
Take time to rest up
For tommorrow

Even during all the bad days
Cloudy skies can't stop the sunrays
This could never be a sad place
If you check it out I know you'll

Soon you'll see it, see it shinin'
Hand in hand, the colors vibrant
Fleeting beauty isn't silent
I know sometimes it really feels that

Even during all the bad days
Cloudy skies can't stop the sunrays
This could never be a sad place
If you check it out I know you'll

Soon you'll see it, see it shinin'
Hand in hand, the colors vibrant
Fleeting beauty isn't silent
I know sometimes it really feels that way

Commentary & Reccommendations

MINDWAVE is a really cool idea for a game, and I'm looking forward to playing it when it comes out (Hey future me likely reading this at some point, was it good?). I've been saying online for a while now that Warioware is one of those game concepts that Nintendo honestly doesn't do much with, from a narrative standpoint, so it was ripe for innovation by indie devs. The concept of jumping into people's minds like Psychonauts to play themed minigames is such a good idea, and the way it's done with Abby, the girl featured in the demo (and whose stage this song appears in) is really neat because the whole game has this sort of dark, moody atmosphere up to that point, where characters are pitted against each other for a reward and you can't trust anyone except your closest friend, so the first character you "face off" against being Abby with this cute pink pastel color scheme and cheery, peppy soundtrack just kinda throws off the whole vibe in a really refreshing way, as it shows the kind of swings the development team is willing to take in terms of variety. Vocal tracks as a whole aren't new to warioware-style games, but when they do appear, they're still highlights of their respective games, so it's a statement when a game comes out of the gate with one.

As for the song itself, despite its cheery lyrics and instrumentation, I get this air of sadness to it. Perhaps that's for word choice in the lyrics: "I know sometimes it really feels that way", "This could never be a sad place", "rest up for tomorrow", all give this sort of vibe to me of someone who like, has to make their environment happy because of past abuse or something of that nature. Like the narrator sings this happy cheery song to protect themselves and make them forget about the shit they've seen. That also could be the vibe I'm getting due to the rest of MINDWAVE's presentation, though.

On Wariorware: Get It Together! (2021)1One of the latest vocal tracks from the warioware series, and about as cheesy as this song is
Temporary Goodbye
By L.A. EXES (2021)
Banger track which has that sort of undercurrent of cheerful sadness to it. An online person showed this song to me after I expressed similar sentiment to the lyrics.

On Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney (2001)
The first Ace Attorney does this really clever thing where the first time the melody for this song plays is after a character death scene, so by the time you hear this version of it for Maya, it has a sort of sad twinge to it despite the upbeat melody. It makes a lot of people cry. Anyway, that's the reason I include it here, despite trying to stay away from instrumental tracks for this playlist.
