A Day In The Radio

By Plus-Tech Squeeze Box
On FAKEVOX (2000)

This morning people wake me of the broken radio 1
Clock noise = tick tack = allegro sunny Sunday A.M. is cute!
Yes! Cherry and Apple line up
On the table for red mood
And then I listen to record
I'll call up sleepy boy

What a preppy style it will be
My brand-new life come true!
It's a fantasy
Don't you think, my darling?
I'm a plastic girlfriend. Do you somehow feeling high spirit?
Such a happy day
In the radio... It's O.K.

Last night, I was breathing a romantic sigh
How I wish tomorrow will take care of itself then forever?

Hey! You must go to super-market
I must anxious my boyfriend
Lunch will be ready by that time
Go back at once sweet sweet room

What a preppy style it will be
My brand-new life come true!
It's a fantasy
Don't you think, my darling?
I'm a plastic girlfriend. Do you somehow feeling high spirit?
Such a happy day
In the radio... It's O.K.

People, these morning people
People, these morning people

A.M. is cute!
Yes! Cherry and Apple line up
On the table for red mood
And then I listen to record
I'll call up sleepy boy

What a preppy style it will be
My brand-new life come true!
It's a fantasy
Don't you think, my darling?
I'm a plastic girlfriend. Do you somehow feeling high spirit?
Such a happy day
In the radio... It's O.K.

It's O.K.
It's O.K.

Commentary & Reccommendations

AAAAAAAAAA FINALLY I CAN TALK ABOUT THIS NICHE ANIMATOR I FOLLOW

I found this song through this nitonoh animation that's super cool and I really love their style!!! Please check out their other animations they all have this cool style and use either weird songs like these or old school songs!!!! This isn't a commentary section about this animation though even though I find it cool and neat, I don't have too much to say about it.
This song is considered in the "shibuya-kei" genre, which like many niche genres doesn't really have a style but more of a shared inspiration and vibe. I actually found out about the band through a track 3on a shibuya-kei and Katamari playlist (I love the Katamari soundtrack) from their second and final album, CARTOOOM! The band also featured in a bunch of different commercials, cartoons, and they also did the theme song for the Pucca cartoon on Jetix. They just kinda dissapearred after the mid-2000s, the band members went on to do their own things. Many such cases when it comes to obscure japanese bands.
As for the actual song, I love the vibe. It has this really peppy vibe with kind of dark undertones with referring to herself as a "plastic girlfriend" which I read as something like, smiling on the outside despite any feelings on the inside. There's also that bit with "breathing a romantic sigh" which can be read... a bunch of different ways, honestly. The animation kinda colors the way I look at this one.
I also think about some of these lyrics a lot, they pop up in my head. "These morning people" whenever I get bothered by people in the morning, "Sunday A.M. is cute!" whenever I'm doing things on Sunday mornings, and "Hey! You must go to super-market" whenever I find myself needing to pick up groceries. "I must anxious my boyfriend" is also really funny.

Reccommendations

Sweet Fantasy World
By Hikari Ishidaira (hicalculator) (2007-ish?)
This was another song on that playlist. I liked its catchy chorus and musical samples of Game & Watch and Mario 3 sound effects. I didn't realize it'd be hard to find any information on hicalculator, because there's even less documentation on them than Plus-Tech Squeeze Box. I have no reference for when this song came out, the only information on the artist I can find is from a super short japanese wikipedia article on her that has suggestions to be deleted and various copies of that article accross other japanese wikis. The best information I can find is internet archive pages of this the artist's blog from the early 2010s. It's *that* bad. I guess this is a situation where I just need to be grateful the music is out there to listen to!
Everything Needs Love (feat. BoA)
By Shinichi Osawa (Mondo Grosso) (2002)
Another banger on that playlist. Very catchy and loopable bop. EVERYTHING NEEDS LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE~
LONELY ROLLING STAR (feat. Saki Kabata)
By Yoshihito Yano
On Katamari Damacy (2004)
Oh yeah, matter as well put some actual Katamari music on here too. This is one of my favorites from and probably the most iconic track from the original game. It's a really catchy sweet song with lyrics about a lover who's always confident her partner will always come rolling back to her despite the distance between them.
