There were eighty-seven Advil in the bottle, now there's thirty left
I ate fourty-seven, so what happened to the other ten?
Why do you suspiciously change the subject and break my concentration
As I dump the bottle out, and I count the Advil up again
Don't interrupt me as I struggle to complete this thought
Have some respect for someone more forgetful than yourself
And I'm not done
And I won't be 'till my head falls off
Hitting every pocket of my shirt, pants and overcoat
And I'm hitting them again, but I don't know where I put my notes
Clearing my throat and gripping the lecturn I smile and face my audience
Clearing his throat and smiling with his hands on the bathroom sink
1
And when I lean my head against the frosted shower stall
I see stuff through the glass that I don't recognize at all
And I'm not done
And I won't be 'till my head falls off
Though it may not be a long way off
2
I'm not done talking
I'm not done talking
And when I lean my head against the frosted shower stall
I see a broken figure sillouetted on the wall
And I'm not done
And I won't be 'till my head falls off
Though it may not be a long way off
I won't be done until my head falls off
Live performances of this song these days sub out "forgetful" for "decrepit", which kinda ruins the song for me. "Have some respect for someone more forgetful than yourself" is a thing I feel a lot of the time.
Anyway, I had to use this song to follow up BIRDBRAIN. The two songs are linked in my head, both having lyrics referring to heads falling off in the chorus. Both also have this theme of mental disability in a way I can relate to.
Birdbrain is moreso, to me, in the vein of "I'm going to keep going". "I don't think my head is falling off". With this song it's more like "You can't get rid of me", which is a slightly different vibe to the lyric. Both songs have a lot of room for interpretation, but generally I see this song as more ADHD-coded (references to breaking in conversation and forgetfulness, as well as difficulty communicating) and birdbrain as more autism spectrum-coded (references to feeling behind other people, as well as difficult connecting with others), but both have a generally introverted feel to them (Birdbrain being more so "oh no.. people" and this song being more "eww... people") and both have that "I'll keep going despite this shit" mood that I really enjoy.
